Protecting the Blue River

We can all help keep the Blue River Healthy by reducing the trash and litter that makes its way

to our streams and rivers. Remember, if it is on the ground, it is in the water. Each year, Renew The Blue Partners organize hundreds of volunteers to pick up trash in and around the Blue River and its tributaries.

We measure success of protecting the Blue River with tons of trash removed from the river

or prevented from getting into the river and the number of tires removed from the Blue River.

Renew the Blue Highlight: March 2021

The Renew the Blue team participated in Project Blue River Rescue, the largest one day cleanup organized by Stream Team #175 and The Little Blue River Watershed Coalition. This year marked “31derful years” of the cleanup. It was a successful day! The teams collected 1,200 bags of trash, and 242 tires with a total of 350 attendees!

HCA and KC Water led students from Chestnut Family Resource Center in water quality education workshops before embarking on a neighborhood cleanup.
